WHAT? This class is for anyone who is interested in learning more about the ancient medium of encaustic paint. The focus will be on developing your own unique voice, but we will cover the basics including: making encaustic medium, making colors using powdered pigments, applying the paint, fusing layers, collage, incorporating images and more. We will talk about safety as well as how to set up your own studio with mininal equipment.
This class will involve a lot of experimentation and play. You must come prepared to try new things and have an open mind about your creative practice. I encourage you to bring sketches, small studies, or anything that will help you generate ideas. We will try to discover what ignites your creative fire!
Artists of all levels are welcome.
The cost includes two days of instruction, beeswax, damar resin, pigments, brushes, tools, a torch, collage materials and a few panels. Additional panels will be available for purchase. If you wish, you are welcome to bring additional panels to work on, your own brushes (natural bristle brushes only please), your own torch or tools and any additional collage materials or colors you want to use. However, you don't need to bring anything. I plan to have enough for each artist for two days.
I've been painting for nearly three decades and my focus has been on abstract painting. I've been painting in encaustic for a decade. I show my encaustic paintings at Aurelia Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, NM. Teaching others to discover their own voice has been a passion of mine. I'd like the chance to help you discover your own way of making art.
COST: $500
I will provide drinks and snacks, but please bring a lunch both days. My studio is not near any restaurants.
