WHAT? This class is for anyone who has an interest in painting abstractly in oil. Maybe you have never painted before... Maybe you have painted before but have a curiosity about abstraction... Maybe you have tried painting abstractly, but felt lost or overwhelmed...Maybe you just want to try oil paint? If any of these statements ring true, than this is the workshop for you!!!
This workshop is a rare opportunity to take a class live from me. I have been teaching online for about 5 years, with only one live class offered during that time. I'm going to offer a "oil paint specific" version of my popular online class "Intro to Abstract Painting." We are going to have a lot of fun! I will combine basics of painting with some of the ideas behind abstraction. The primary emphasis will be on how to paint intuitively. There will be lots of play and laughter. I truly believe that we are all creative - some of us just need a little help drawing that creativity out. I'm going to do my best to release the creative in each one of you!
We're going to draw a little, paint a lot, and learn about some of the abstract artists who came before us.
The class will be designed so that you will have the maximum opportunity to draw and paint with guidance and insights from me. In the process, I hope you will discover your own way to make marks. We are not going to spend half the day with you watching me paint. I think you will learn the most by doing. I will have some short demos for you, but they will not take up the bulk of the class. My approach to teaching abstract art is geared toward individuality and intuitive exploration. It is my hope that after taking this class, you will be jazzed enough to go home and keep painting on your own!
Using oil paint safely will also be discussed.
If you have sensitivities to oil paint, you can bring water soluble oils. The studio will be ventilated, and care will be taken to minimize fumes.
