Welcome to the art of Karine Swenson. Swenson is an artist living in the high desert of Southern California. She paints in oil, watercolor and pastel. Her abstract, or non-representational paintings are a visual exploration of color and form. She also has a life-long interest in painting and drawing the human figure. An adventurer at heart, Swenson and her husband have a love of nature and the outdoors. They have lived in Colorado, where they hiked, skied and spent summers fly-fishing high mountain lakes. They lived in Hawaii where they surfed, swam, snorkeled and Swenson even learned to dance the hula. They have been fortunate enough to travel to Australia, South Africa, Greece, Istanbul, Hong Kong, and other exotic places. They now call Joshua Tree, CA home. Here, they spend as much time as they can exploring the wonders of their desert landscape with their dog, Pono. The many different places and adventures Swenson has experienced all lend something more to the creation of her art. She seeks a visual language that transcends words and hopefully touches on a quality that is universal. She draws heavily from nature, but she also reaches deep within for the creation of her art.
