This is a live two day encaustic painting workshop with Ellen Koment and Karine Swenson in Swenson's new Santa Fe studio.
This class is appropriate for beginners as well as artists who have used encaustic paint before but want to learn more.
Koment and Swenson have different approaches to the medium of encaustic paint. They will combine their knowledge and share it with you. We will explore the basics of encaustic painting including: making your own encaustic medium, making colors, fusing with a torch, carving into the wax, building texture, collage, color theory and more. This is a great opportunity for you to learn a lot about encaustic, which is an ancient and versatile medium.
The price includes materials.
The workshop is 10 to 4 pm each day with a break for lunch. Lunch is not included. You will need to bring your own lunch, since Swenson's studio is not close to any stores or restaurants. Coffee, tea, beverages and snacks will be provided.
Ellen Koment has been teaching encaustic for twenty-five years. Her first show with encaustic paint was in 1994 in Portland. As one of the pioneers in modern encaustic painting, she offers years of experience with the medium that few other artists have.
Karine Swenson has been an artist for nearly thirty years, and the last 8 or 9 years she has spent exploring encaustic. Her first show with encaustic paint was three years ago, but she has been actively showing and selling her encaustic paintings since then.
Koment and Swenson are both currently showing at Aurelia Gallery in Santa Fe.
Mark your calendars now for Saturday and Sunday, May 25th & 26th, 2024. The workshop will be held from 10 to 4 pm both days.
