"This most recent collection of paintings is heavily influenced by my experience of living in the desert of Joshua Tree. On walks one might find weathered old buildings, rusty rotten cars and discarded trash. The paintings have the edges of peeling paint, rusted metal or faint clouds on the horizon. Then, I add a circle or a square, as a reference to the presence of a new element in this forgotten landscape. I suppose they are very much self portraits. Despite the feelings of quiet contemplation, the paintings are laden with history and textures." -K. Swenson 2009
