These monotypes measure 8 x 10 inches. They were all created using oil based etching inks and are printed on BFK Rives printmaking paper. Swenson often uses recycled materials to create the textures and some of the shapes you see in these monotypes. Sometimes, she will also incorporate pure powdered pigments in addition to the inks.
A hand pulled monotype is a monotype that was created using pressure applied by hand. Usually, the artist uses a brayer, a wooden spoon, or even a rolling pin to apply the pressure to the paper and plate. It requires quite a lot more "muscle" than prints created using a printmaking press.
